Perseverance and Confidence in Prayer
“For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”
This verse is part of the Sermon on the Mount and teaches us about God’s generous willingness to answer His children. Jesus uses three verbs of increasing action—ask, seek, and knock—to illustrate that prayer is not just a passive act, but an active pursuit of relationship and divine providence.
The principle here is not a magic formula for selfish desires, but an invitation to consistency. God wants us to demonstrate dependence and trust in Him. The promise is clear: persistence rooted in faith finds an answer consistent with the Father’s goodness, who always delivers what is best for us.
In practice, this teaching encourages us not to give up when faced with closed doors or temporary silence. If you are facing a challenge, keep presenting your needs to God, seeking His will in Scripture, and acting in faith, knowing that He is attentive to your cry.
