The Hope of Glory as His Children
“Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.”
This verse reminds us of our deepest identity: we are children of God right now, in the present. It is not just a future promise, but an immediate spiritual reality that defines who we are and how we should live in the world. Even if the world does not recognize us, our origin is in the Father.
The passage also points to a glorious mystery. We do not yet fully comprehend the extent of our transformation, but we have one certainty: we will be like Jesus. The direct vision of Christ’s glory will have a transformative power over us, completing the work begun in our rebirth.
In practice, living with this hope motivates us toward holiness and perseverance. Knowing that our final destiny is to be like the Son of God encourages us to face current afflictions, keeping our eyes fixed on the promise of eternity and the manifestation of His presence.
