The Foundation of True Wisdom

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Provérbios 1:7NVI
The book of Proverbs begins by establishing a spiritual cornerstone: the fear of the Lord. Unlike a paralyzing fear, this is a deep respect, a holy reverence, and the acknowledgment of God's sovereignty over all things. It is the starting point for anyone who wishes to see the world with clarity and purpose. While the world seeks knowledge through fleeting information, the Bible invites us to seek the wisdom that comes from above. The author draws a clear contrast: the wise person values instruction and correction, while the fool closes themselves off in their own pride, rejecting any form of discipline that might shape their character. In practice, living out this verse means consulting God in our daily decisions and being willing to learn from biblical teachings. When we place the Lord at the center of our quest for knowledge, our choices reflect eternal values, and we reap fruits of peace and discernment in our journey.
