The Faithfulness of God's Everlasting Love
“The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.””
Jeremiah wrote during a time of restoration, reminding the people that, although they had faced difficult times, God's love remains unshakable. The term 'everlasting love' indicates that the Creator's affection is not fleeting nor dependent on our circumstances, but is a decision rooted in His own character.
This verse teaches us that we are actively sought by God. His 'unfailing kindness' or 'loyal love' acts like a magnet that draws us close, offering hope when we feel unworthy or forgotten. It is an invitation to rest in the security that we were chosen before we ever took a single step.
In practice, understanding this love frees us from the anxiety of trying to 'earn' divine approval. We can live with the confidence that the same God who loved us in the past is the one who sustains our present and guarantees our future, moving us to love others with that same loyalty and grace.
