The Certainty of Our Divine Help

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

This psalm, known as a Song of Ascents, was sung by pilgrims traveling toward Jerusalem. By looking at the mountains, the psalmist recognizes that true protection doesn't come from geography or human hands, but from the Creator of all things. It is a declaration of total dependence and absolute trust. In practice, this verse invites us to shift our focus from our difficulties to the greatness of God. In moments of distress, we are tempted to look only at the size of our problems (the mountains), but the Word reminds us that the One who sustains the universe is the same one who cares for every detail of our lives. We can rest in the certainty that the Lord does not sleep and is always attentive to our journey. The same power that established the heavens and the earth is available to help us, offering peace that surpasses understanding and strength to overcome daily challenges with renewed hope.
